In 1994 I observed a workshop given by Don Reitz.  He inspired me to become an artist/potter.  His enthusiasm, energy, attitude, charm and spirit captured my soul.  I have been and still am in a lasting relationship with clay.  Viewers see my work as contemporary with a slight Southwestern feel on occasion.  When I began making ceramic art I was wheel throwing, but in 1997 I moved to Florida and began hand building with slabs, coils and altering pieces.  This change in venue released the artist from within me.  Leaves started appearing in my artwork in 1997.  They have been an integral part of my work ever since.  Leaves in my work symbolize life and growth.  Characteristics of clay such as shape, texture, form and color are also very important aspects of my work.  My diverse interests also influence my work, thus it stays the same, yet changes.  My love of art, nature, watercolor painting and the human form also influence my work.  My work provokes the viewer to touch it and sense the energy, spirit and sexuality of each piece.  Currently, my primary emphasis of work is sculptural; stand alone pieces, boxes, lidded boxes, vessels, urns and non-traditional teapots.  I envision myself making larger pieces like Totem Poles and public art as well as my normal forms.
